Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, has announced that Ghana will host the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2027, marking a significant achievement for the country’s football development efforts.
The announcement, made on April 26, 2026, via his official Facebook page, has generated excitement among fans and key stakeholders nationwide.
Hosting the tournament is seen as a strong endorsement of Ghana’s capacity to organise major continental competitions, further cementing its reputation as a leading football nation in Africa.
This will be Ghana’s first time hosting the tournament in nearly three decades, with the last edition held in 1999—a memorable year when the Ghana national under-20 football team clinched the title on home soil.
The U-20 AFCON is widely regarded as a vital platform for nurturing young talent, often serving as a springboard for players who go on to achieve success at the highest levels of international football.
Ghana’s role as host is expected to highlight its vibrant football culture while providing an opportunity for emerging talents to shine on a continental stage.
In addition to the sporting benefits, the tournament is anticipated to boost the country’s economy through increased tourism, business activity, and infrastructure upgrades, including improvements to stadiums, transport systems, and hospitality services.
Details regarding host cities, venues, and exact dates are yet to be confirmed by the Confederation of African Football, but preparations are expected to begin soon.
Ghana heads into the tournament with a strong track record, as the Black Satellites remain one of Africa’s most successful youth teams, having won the competition four times, most recently in 2021.
