The government has announced that Ghana’s Electronic Visa (E-Visa) platform has received more than 1,000 applications within one month of its launch, marking a major step in efforts to modernise the country’s visa application system.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, disclosed this when Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang visited the Ministry of the Interior on Monday, July 13.

According to the Minister, the applications came from travellers in 78 countries, describing the response as a significant achievement in improving access to Ghana’s visa services.

He explained that the platform has simplified the visa application process by enabling travellers to apply, pay and receive approval online without the need to visit Ghanaian embassies or consulates.

He noted that since the official launch of the platform by President John Dramani Mahama on May 25, nearly 1,500 people have applied to travel to Ghana through the online system within a month.

The Interior Minister also revealed that additional services under the Ministry, including applications involving the Narcotics Control Commission and cannabis-related conventions, have been digitised to improve efficiency and accessibility.

The E-Visa platform allows applicants to complete the entire visa process electronically, including submission of applications, payment of fees and receipt of approved visas.

At the launch of the initiative, President Mahama announced that African passport holders travelling to Ghana for business purposes would apply exclusively through the online platform and would be exempt from visa fees.
