The Adom Brands of the Multimedia Group Limited has formally petitioned the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to investigate an alleged assault involving its Oti Regional Correspondent, Obrempongba Kwame Owusu, by suspected military personnel enforcing a curfew in Nkwanta South.
According to the media organisation, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 11, while the journalist was reporting on developments following the New Patriotic Party’s constituency executive elections in the area.
Adom Brands alleged that the reporter was attacked after attempting to capture footage of how some civilians were being treated by security personnel during the curfew enforcement operation.
The petition follows an earlier statement by the Multimedia Group condemning the alleged assault and calling for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The media organisation has called on the Military High Command to identify and take action against those responsible, while also ensuring that the medical costs of the injured journalist and other affected civilians are covered.
Senior Editor at Adom Brands, AC Ohene, confirmed that the organisation had formally submitted a complaint to the Ghana Armed Forces requesting an inquiry into the matter.
He said the petition was intended to establish whether military personnel were involved and to ensure accountability if the allegations are confirmed.
The Multimedia Group has stressed that the incident raises serious concerns about the safety of journalists carrying out their professional duties and is demanding swift action to determine the facts and protect press freedom.
