    Government pledges support for World Arm-wrestling gold medalist Grace Mintah

    The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS), has pledged to reward gold medalist Grace Mintah following her triumph at the 2024 World Arm-wrestling Championship in Moldova.

    The two-time continental champion became the first African woman to win a gold medal at the event.

    She defeated her compatriots from Sweden, Ukraine, Germany and Turkey in the women’s 80kg category to emerge victorious.

    The team, together with Board Members of the Ghana Arm-wrestling Federation (GAF) paid a visit to led by Mr. Mustapha Ussif Minister of Youth and Sports to show appreciation for his support throughout the competition.

    Mr. Ussif congratulated the World Champion and the Arm-wrestling Federation for consistent results over the past few years and assured them that, the gold medalist would be rewarded.

    He said government was making adequate preparations to reward the gold medalist in due time as a way of motivating other athletes to win medals for the country.

    The Sports Minister charged the team to make good use of the facility provided to aid their progress.

    He tasked Sports Federations to work hand in hand with the Security Services for sports development and promotion.

    Grace Mintah, who doubles as a Police Officer expressed appreciation to the Minister for acknowledging her achievement.

    She said the success chalked was a beginning of something great as a world champion.

    Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of GAF pleaded with the Ministry to provide Golden Arms with a training center to boost their developmental plan.

    He assured that Arm-wrestling would win a gold medal for Ghana when given the nod to participate at the Olympics.

    Mintah gained her first global experience at the 2023 World Combat Games in Saudi Arabia, where she failed to enter the medal zone.

    The athlete made a comeback in her career to dominate the continent, winning the African championship back-to-back and a double gold at the 2023 African Games.

    In addition to her achievement, Mintah holds more medals at major events on the continent, leaving a mark as Africa’s number one female arm wrestler.
