The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured families of children injured in the Dzorwulu–Accra Mall road crash that the government will fully support their recovery, including paying for all medical expenses.
The assurance was given during the Minister’s visit on Friday, July 31, 2026, to some of the injured children receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, following Thursday’s collision involving a school bus and a tipper truck.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, Dr. Lartey expressed sympathy to the injured children and their families, reaffirming the government’s commitment to their welfare.
“As the Minister responsible for children’s welfare, I want to assure the families of government’s commitment and support, especially that of President John Dramani Mahama, in ensuring the full recovery of the children,” she said.
The Minister further assured parents that they would not have to bear the financial cost of their children’s treatment.
The families will not be burdened with the cost of the children’s medical treatment, allowing them to concentrate on providing the emotional care and support their children need,” she added.
Dr. Lartey noted that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing and expressed confidence that the appropriate authorities would establish the facts and ensure accountability where necessary.
She is also expected to visit the remaining injured children receiving treatment at other health facilities to offer government support and monitor their recovery.
Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that one child died in the early hours of Friday as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The incident has sparked widespread concern and renewed calls for stricter road safety measures to protect schoolchildren.
