Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary will celebrate its 68th anniversary on Saturday, August 1, with a Speech and Prize Giving Day as the highlight of a three-day global homecoming that has reunited old students from across the world.

The event, scheduled to take place at the school’s Assembly Hall from 9:00 a.m., is themed “Empowering Learners for Excellence: A Responsibility of All.”

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, while Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and alumnus, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, will deliver the keynote address.

Other distinguished guests expected at the ceremony include the Paramount Chief of New Juaben, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III; the Effiduasehemaa, Nana Krobea Asantewaa Gyankomah II; the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ivy Asantewa Owusu; the Member of Parliament for Lambussie and old boy, Prof. Titus Beyuo, who will serve as Guest of Honour; and businessman Raymond Oppong-Dapaah, who chairs the event. The school’s Headmaster, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Opoku Ohene, will also host the ceremony.

The anniversary celebrations form part of the Pope John Old Boys’ Association (POJOBA) 2026 Global Homecoming, which runs from Friday to Sunday.

Activities began on Friday with a convoy from Peduase, followed by a 5-kilometre health walk and the commissioning of three legacy projects: the Omane Boamah Crescent, a refurbished school kitchen, and a renovated basketball court.

The newly named Omane Boamah Crescent honours Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the former Defence Minister and distinguished Pope John alumnus who lost his life in the August 2025 helicopter crash.

The celebrations will conclude on Sunday with a thanksgiving service and a reunion lunch, bringing the three-day homecoming to a close while reaffirming the enduring bond among Pope John alumni and their commitment to supporting the school’s continued growth.
