Mrs. Hannah Awadzi, Online Editor at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has been adjudged the Most Outstanding Female Journalist in Ghana (2025) at the prestigious Ghana Women Awards, held in Accra over the weekend.

The Ghana Women Awards is an annual event that celebrates women who have excelled in their professions and contributed significantly to national development. The initiative seeks to recognise and honour women of excellence across diverse sectors of society.

Mrs. Awadzi received the honour alongside several other distinguished Ghanaian women who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields.

Her recognition comes as no surprise to many who are familiar with her advocacy for persons with disabilities (PWDs), particularly children, which she passionately pursues alongside her journalism career.

A committed advocate and storyteller, Mrs. Awadzi has carved a niche for herself in Ghana’s media landscape by focusing on human-centered stories that amplify the voices of marginalised communities — especially children with special needs and their families.

Her journalism is widely admired for its depth, empathy, and advocacy-driven approach, often highlighting issues of inclusion and social justice. Through her work, she has challenged stereotypes, promoted inclusive policies, and inspired positive change in both the media space and wider society.

Upon receiving her award — a plaque and a certificate — Mrs. Awadzi expressed deep gratitude and reaffirmed her dedication to using the media as a platform for advocacy, inclusion, and empowerment.

“This award is for every woman who dares to tell stories that matter, and for every child whose voice deserves to be heard,” she told the GNA.

“I am deeply honoured and even more inspired to continue this journey. I will keep encouraging and mentoring young journalists to do their best — embrace kindness, work diligently, and believe that their efforts make a difference,” she added.

Mrs. Awadzi also extended appreciation to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for nominating her for the award.

Other honourees at the ceremony included Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow–Sarpong, who received the Legendary Woman Award; Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award; and Adeline Akweley Quarshie, named Corporate Woman of the Year.

Additional awardees were Anita Akua Akuffo, Most Promising Lady; Mrs. Sylvia Linda Aku Larbi, Outstanding Female Architect; and Janet Agwiah, Outstanding Midwife, among others.

The Ghana Women Awards, instituted in 2009 by Brain Consult in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, continues to spotlight women whose dedication and impact are shaping Ghana’s progress and inspiring future generations.
