Mr Samuel Kofi Kilifingh, an aspiring District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North, has pledged to prioritise the development of the recently discovered hippopotamus habitat in the Sibi Zone if given the opportunity to serve.

The DCE aspirant, whose name was among the three shortlisted told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, the discovery of the hippopotamus had the potential to transform the local economy through tourism and as such, deserved top priority.

Mr Kilifingh added that the development of the hippopotamus habitat would not only create jobs and stimulate economic growth but also promote conservation and environmental sustainability. “I am excited about the discovery of the hippopotamus in our district, and I am committed to ensuring that this natural resource is developed to benefit our people.”

“I will work closely with stakeholders, including the traditional authorities, local communities and conservation experts, to ensure that the hippopotamus habitat is developed in a responsible and sustainable manner,” Mr. Kilifingh added.

Diving into the persistent power outages and voltage fluctuations in the Nkwanta North, the aspirant vowed to work closely with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other stakeholders to upgrade the existing power infrastructure.

The aspirant’s plan included constructing a new substation to increase power capacity, upgrading transmission lines to reduce power losses and installing smart grid technologies to better manage power distribution. He said these measures were expected to provide a reliable power supply which was essential for economic growth and development.
