Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has endorsed the newly launched WASTLE platform, describing it as a timely digital solution that can transform waste management, improve sanitation and help create cleaner communities across Ghana.
The technology-driven platform, developed by Afrinova WASTLE Solutions Limited, was officially unveiled on Tuesday at the La-Bawaleshie School Park in Accra. It is designed to connect households, businesses and institutions with licensed waste collection providers through a digital system while encouraging recycling, generating green employment opportunities and supporting Ghana’s circular economy.
The initiative is being rolled out in collaboration with the Ayawaso West, Madina and Adentan Municipal Assemblies to enhance sanitation services and promote responsible waste disposal through greater community participation.
Addressing participants at the launch, John Dumelo urged Ghanaians to make environmental cleanliness a daily habit rather than depending on occasional clean-up exercises.
He encouraged residents to regularly clean the areas around their homes, stressing that maintaining clean surroundings should become part of everyday life.
The Deputy Minister also noted that the platform comes at a critical time, as Ghana continues to grapple with sanitation challenges that have contributed to flooding in several communities following recent heavy rains.
He called on the public to embrace the platform and take advantage of its services from the convenience of their homes and workplaces.
His remarks come ahead of the government’s nationwide clean-up exercise scheduled for July 10 and 11 across seven flood-affected regions as authorities intensify efforts to reduce flood risks linked to poor waste disposal and blocked drainage systems.
Managing Partner for Operations at Afrinova WASTLE Solutions Limited, Alex Kwame Donyinah, said the platform was created to address the challenges many households and businesses face in accessing dependable waste collection services.
He explained that WASTLE leverages digital technology to connect waste producers with licensed service providers, making waste collection more efficient while promoting healthier and cleaner communities.
Representing the Member of Parliament for Madina, Ivan Dzakpasu, said the recent floods underscored the need for stronger waste management systems, describing the platform as an important tool for preventing future disasters and improving community safety.
In addition to enabling users to schedule waste collection, WASTLE allows residents to report blocked drains before they develop into major flood hazards. Developers believe the platform’s integration of technology, collaboration with local assemblies and active public participation will help reduce indiscriminate waste disposal, improve sanitation and build more resilient communities across Ghana.
