Dr. Sam Issaka Suraj, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), has urged staff of the Assembly to work as a team towards the development of the district.

He promised to ensure an equitable distribution of resources by making sure every department receives a fair share of the common fund. Dr. Suraj made these remarks at a General Staff Meeting in Kadjebi in the Oti Region.

He stated that his vision was to transform the district and therefore urged staff to cooperate with him towards its realization. He encouraged staff to be punctual at work and added that he would institute an award scheme to recognize hardworking employees and also improve their welfare.

The Kadjebi DCE pledged to provide maximum support to revenue mobilization efforts by ensuring that the sub-structures are fully and effectively functional. He also promised to ensure proper maintenance of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines, as well as the other equipment to the Assembly.

Dr. Suraj committed to operating with transparent and accountable leadership, emphasizing that he would not interfere in staff affairs but would not tolerate backbiting. Mr. Eric Nana Takyi, the Kadjebi District Director of Health Services, remarked that his outfit had placed second consecutively times in the Oti Districts Health Performance Review rating and had been declared as a Model Health Facility in the region due to its infrastructural improvement plan.

He noted that, the Assembly had abandoned several health projects in the district, including those at Asato, Menuso, and others, and appealed to the DCE to assist in their completion. Nana Takyi further requested that the DCE liaise with the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) to complete the Menuso health facility project so that, if possible, some rooms could be allocated to his staff.

Mr. Seth Seyram Deh, Kadjebi District Director of Education, also indicated that he had employed pragmatic measures to improve students’ performance in the district. He bemoaned the Teacher’s deficit in the district due to the non-acceptance of postings and the high rent charges teachers had to pay. He therefore appealed to the DCE to help address these challenges.

Mr. Rashad Shaibu, Kadjebi District Director of the Department of Food and Agriculture, opined that his outfit performed very well in the registration of Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II Programme, as about One Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty- Two (1,122) farmers were registered, which placed the district in the limelight.

He added that the district was a beneficiary of the World Food Programme. However, he noted a few challenges facing his outfit, including limited number of staff, lack of space for keeping seedlings in his yard and limited number of labourers to maintain seedlings in his yard. Mr. Shaibu indicated further that farmers in the district refused to take part in the farmer registration exercise for Agro input distribution.

Some of them blamed him for denying them the inputs and he urged them to refrain from this misconception. He finally promised the DCE of his intention to encourage people to take agriculture as a serious business and not the other way round.
