Kadjebi residents have welcomed the nomination of Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong as the Oti Regional Minister-designate.

They described the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area’s nomination as politically correct and appropriate because of his political maturity and dedication to party work. Engaging with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Ofori, former MP for Akan, said “he deserves it because he served the Party since 1992 and went through the ranks”.

He said the nominee was the former Volta Regional Chairperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and continued in Oti Region when the Region was separated from the parent region in 2018. “He won all the Parliamentary Seats for the NDC in 2020 and 2024 elections”, he said.

Mr. Ofori said despite Mr. Gyapong’s old age, he visited all the Constituencies to canvass for votes for the Party during the 2024 electioneering campaign. Mr. Frank Seth Alifui, former District Chief Executive for Kadjebi, speaking to the GNA on the nomination, said he qualified to do the job since he performed excellently as Regional Chair.

“I was thinking that he should be appointed as Sector Minister, but Regional Minister too is good,” he added.  Mr. Emmanuel Klu, Director of Elections, NDC, Akan Constituency, described Gyapong’s nomination as good news to Akan Constituency. “ “Finally, we are in government and happy that our works have been recognized by the Party,” he said.

Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, a native of Kadjebi was elected as MP for Akan from 1992-2000 and 2005-2008. A letter from the Presidency Communications dated Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with “President Mahama nominates first batch of Regional Ministers”, named John Kwadwo Gyapong, a Business Executive, former MP for Akan current NDC Regional Chairperson, Oti as Regional Minister-designate. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Cape Coast.
