The Planning Committee for Mfantsipim School’s 150th anniversary celebrations has opened nominations for the Mfantsipim @150 Sesquicentennial Awards, inviting the public to recognise individuals and organisations whose outstanding contributions have advanced the school’s legacy and positively impacted society.

The awards form one of the flagship events of the school’s sesquicentennial celebrations and are intended to honour excellence in leadership, service, achievement and commitment to both Mfantsipim and the broader community.

Established in 1876 by the Methodist Church as Wesleyan High School, Mfantsipim School is widely regarded as Ghana’s first secondary school. Popularly known as “Kwabotwe,” the institution has built a distinguished reputation over the past 150 years for academic excellence, discipline, leadership development and public service, producing generations of influential leaders.

The school’s enduring commitment to service is reflected in its anniversary Jama, “We who attended Mfantsipim will serve her forever,” a phrase that symbolises the lifelong connection many alumni maintain with the institution.

According to the anniversary committee, the awards will celebrate individuals and organisations whose dedication has helped preserve Mfantsipim’s rich heritage while making significant contributions to national and global development.

The committee is encouraging Old Boys, staff, students, parents, corporate organisations, institutions and members of the public to nominate deserving candidates.

Awards will be presented across four main categories:

    • Distinguished and Emerging Alumni
    • Education
    • Pan-Industry
    • MOBA Special Awards

The organisers are inviting nominations for outstanding Old Boys, staff members, benefactors, organisations and friends of Mfantsipim whose service and achievements deserve recognition.

Nominations can be submitted through the official awards portal, with entries closing on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The Mfantsipim @150 Sesquicentennial Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, and is expected to be one of the major highlights of the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Beyond recognising excellence, the awards seek to preserve Mfantsipim’s rich history while celebrating the individuals and institutions whose contributions have sustained the school’s long-standing tradition of developing leaders for Ghana and the international community.
