Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ketu North, has expressed confidence that his party will win the upcoming December 7 elections.

The victory, he said, will pave the way for a tax waiver to clear 500 desktop computers he has secured for Basic Schools in the constituency.

Speaking at a meeting with teachers and nurses in the Afife Zone from Afife, Tadzewu and its surroundings at Tadzewu, Mr. Agbana highlighted the challenges he has faced in attempting to bring these computers into the country.

Despite securing the computers through donor support, he has struggled to get clearance from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education.

“I secured these 500 desktop computers through the help of donors, intending to enhance ICT literacy in our basic schools. However, due to bureaucratic delays, the equipment has not yet been cleared for distribution,” Mr. Agbana said.

He added: “I understand the political dynamics in this country, where the opposition often faces challenges in getting things done, especially if they criticize the government.”

Mr. Agbana emphasized that if elected as a Member of Parliament, his target is to ensure that every basic school in Ketu North is equipped with computers by the end of his first term in office, which would be by 2028.

He expressed confidence that the NDC’s anticipated victory would enable him to secure the necessary tax waivers to facilitate the clearance and distribution of the computers.

“My vision is to make ICT accessible to every child in our constituency, and I am not relying solely on government resources. Through my extensive experience as a management consultant for NGOs, I have built strong connections with donors and international organizations willing to support this initiative,” Mr. Agbana noted.

He also pledged to extend this support to the healthcare sector by equipping health centers with essential medical equipment to improve service delivery in the constituency.

“We aim to provide necessary medical tools to our health facilities. If the NDC wins, we will be able to secure tax exemptions to bring in more equipment to enhance healthcare services,” he added.

During the meeting, teachers highlighted several challenges, including inadequate welfare support and a lack of computers for effective teaching. Nurses also raised concerns about the shortage of medical equipment, particularly the absence of a delivery bed at the Tadzewu Health Centre.

Mr. Agbana reassured the teachers and nurses of his commitment to addressing these issues. He called on them to join him in the mission to develop Ketu North through quality education and improved healthcare services.

He said: “I want you to become my partners in this journey to transform our constituency,” Mr Agbana urged adding “Whether you support NDC or NPP is irrelevant. What matters is our shared commitment to change and our desire to move the constituency forward.”

Mr. Agbana underscored the need for unity among the people of Ketu North, regardless of political affiliation. “It doesn’t matter which party you support. What I need from you is belief in the possibility of change,” he stated, adding, “together, we can build a better future for our children and improve the lives of everyone in the constituency.”

The meeting ended with a sense of optimism, as the teachers and nurses expressed their willingness to collaborate with Mr Agbana in his efforts to address the challenges in the educational and healthcare sectors.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate’s commitment to leveraging external support and partnerships to complement government initiatives was well-received, setting a hopeful tone ahead of the December elections.
