Newmont Africa has donated state-of-the-art geological equipment valued at $12,000 to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).

Dr Cornelius Mireku-Antwi, the Regional Chief Geologist, Newmont Africa, said the equipment would greatly enhance students’ industrial skills, saying the modern devices were essential for acquiring and improving knowledge in their respective programmes.

He said it was imperative to support the students and teach them on the proper use of modern devices, adding that “hands-on experiences will undoubtedly enhance their learning and practical skills, and ultimately prepare them well in the industry”.

Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, the Vice Chancellor of UENR, thanked Newmont Africa for the gesture, saying the equipment would have significantly impacted and facilitate effective practical studies, and thereby advance research in the geological space.

He said the university was undertaking vigorous research work to help mitigate the environmental challenges emanating from illegal mining and lauded Newmont’s commitment towards advancing research work at the university.

Dr Nana Agyemang Prempeh, the Dean of the School of Geosciences, UENR, also thanked Newmont, saying the equipment would well position the university in its efforts towards protecting the environment.
