The National Service Authority (NSA) has uncovered major irregularities within three tertiary institutions, resulting in the arrest of several individuals as investigations intensify.

The Director-General of the NSA, Dela Seddoh, disclosed that 10 staff members from the University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana Communications Technology University (GCTU), and Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) have been arrested and are currently under investigation by security agencies. She added that some NSA personnel have also been taken into custody in connection with the matter.

According to her, the arrests followed the implementation of a new centralized management system aimed at eliminating ghost names from the National Service Scheme. The system exposed serious irregularities across the affected institutions.

Ms Seddoh revealed that more than 8,105 individuals have so far been flagged through the new system, with 1,840 suspended pending further investigations.

Addressing the media at a press conference on Monday, December 15, 2025, she stated that the Authority is determined to prosecute all individuals found culpable, warning that any attempt to undermine the new system will attract severe sanctions.

She further announced that the National Service registration portal would be reopened for a final one-week period, from Monday, December 15 to Monday, December 22, 2025, with Saturday, December 20 added to improve access. After the deadline, the portal will be permanently closed for the 2025/2026 service year to allow for the deployment of nurses later in December.

Ms Seddoh also expressed concern over institutions that reject service personnel after initially accepting their postings. She cited an instance where a ministry rejected nearly 100 personnel on the final day of validation, describing the action as unacceptable and disruptive to the programme.

She warned that institutions that reject service personnel without valid reasons or official release letters would face sanctions, including blacklisting from future postings.

The NSA, she said, has formally notified the Office of the Presidency through its supervising ministry, insisting that all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, and Government Institutions comply with their service personnel quotas. She cautioned that failure to adhere to NSA directives would result in serious consequences.
