The Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Ashanti Regional Police Command, and the IGP’s Special Operations Team (SOT) for their dedication to combating crime and maintaining peace, law and order across the country.

The commendation came during a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Arthur Osei Akoto, led the Director of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah, his deputies and other members of the team to meet the Asantehene.

During the meeting, COP Osei Akoto formally introduced the Special Operations Team to Otumfuo and briefed him on the Inspector-General of Police’s initiative to establish the unit to strengthen intelligence-led policing and enhance public safety across the country.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the team’s sustained intelligence-led operations have made a significant contribution to improving security in the Ashanti Region.

According to the Asantehene, the operations have helped reduce incidents of drug trafficking, robbery, human trafficking and other forms of criminal activity, thereby enhancing public safety.

He encouraged the officers to remain committed, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities, describing policing as a noble profession that requires dedication, sacrifice and integrity.

The Asantehene also urged the personnel to prioritise their personal safety while carrying out their lawful duties in the fight against crime.

In response, the Director of the IGP’s Special Operations Team, Superintendent Augustine Dawson-Ahmoah, thanked the Asantehene for his words of encouragement and pledged that the team would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations to protect lives and property.

He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to supporting the Ghana Police Service in maintaining peace, security and public order throughout the country.

The commendation was contained in a press release issued on July 23, 2026, and signed by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
