Legendary Ghanaian musician Ebo Taylor will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Saltpond, bringing to a close the life of one of Africa’s most influential musical icons after a remarkable career spanning more than six decades.
A private laying-in-state will be held on Friday, July 31, ahead of a burial service at Wesley Methodist Church, Saltpond. He will later be interred at Victoria Park.
Ebo Taylor is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat, whose innovative fusion of musical styles helped shape the evolution of African music and earned him worldwide acclaim.
Over the course of his distinguished career, he collaborated with some of Ghana and Africa’s most celebrated musicians, including Pat Thomas, C.K. Mann, and Nigerian Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. He also played a significant role in mentoring and influencing generations of Ghanaian musicians.
His distinctive sound—an inventive blend of highlife, jazz, funk and Afrobeat—won him an international following and introduced Ghanaian music to audiences around the world.
Ebo Taylor’s enduring influence extended beyond Africa, with his music being sampled by internationally renowned artistes including Usher, The Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Rowland, Jidenna, Vic Mensa, and Rapsody, highlighting the timeless appeal of his compositions.
