Mr Charles Kwesi Nkansa, an aspiring Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kpando Municipality, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in all government institutions and workplaces within the Municipality if appointed.

Speaking to the media after his vetting in Ho on Tuesday, Mr Nkansa emphasized the importance of treating PWDs with dignity and providing them with equal opportunities to contribute to society. “Disabilities can happen to anyone, and being disabled does not mean one lacks the ability to work or contribute meaningfully. We must hold them in high esteem and provide them with the support they need to thrive,” he said.

Mr Nkansa outlined plans to ensure all government buildings and public facilities in Kpando Municipality are disability friendly. He also pledged to create policies that prioritize PWDs in accessing services in government institutions. “We will create parks and systems where persons with disabilities are given first access. Under my leadership, banks, and other public institutions in Kpando will ensure that PWDs are prioritized. Additionally, all government buildings and public spaces will be made accessible to them,” he stated.

He further assured that inclusivity will be central to all municipal activities and resource allocation. “Whatever resources are provided by the central government to the municipality will be distributed inclusively, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left out,” he added. Mr Nkansa emphasized the need for innovative approaches to governance, stating that the municipality must adopt new strategies to achieve better results.

“We cannot continue doing the same things and expect different results. “My vision is to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to transform Kpando into a socially vibrant, economically efficient, and ecologically sustainable community,” he said. He also pledged to align his developmental agenda with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting Ghana.

“Kpando will be a part of the President’s resetting Ghana agenda. Together, we will turn Kpando into a model municipality,” he affirmed. Mr Nkansa, holds two master’s degrees in engineering, a bachelor’s degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and additional training from Germany and Canada. He is one of nine aspirants vying for the MCE position in the Kpando Municipality.
