Prempeh College has renewed its push to recover more than GH¢1 million owed by the Government of Ghana as compensation for land used in constructing the Sofoline Interchange.
The issue came up during a sitting of the Public Accounts Committee in Kumasi, where school authorities responded to matters raised in the Auditor-General’s report. Headmaster Very Rev. Louis Asare revealed that the compensation, promised in 2013, remains unpaid despite multiple follow-ups.
According to him, the school has sent at least four formal letters to key stakeholders, including the project consultant Value Properties and the Department of Urban Roads, but has only received verbal assurances with no actual payment made.
In response, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Dr. William Kwame Amankrah, assured the Committee that the matter would be escalated to the Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to help secure the funds for the school.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Frank Yeboah, appealed to authorities to prioritise the payment, stressing that the school deserves its due compensation to support development projects.
