President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed Governor Tony Evers of Wisconsin, United States, who is leading a business delegation to Ghana to strengthen trade relations and promote investment opportunities between Wisconsin and Ghana.
Governor Evers is in Accra with representatives from Wisconsin’s business community to promote the state’s exports and support key industries, businesses, workforce development and economic growth through international partnerships.
During their meeting, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery and reform agenda, noting that the country has successfully completed its International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout programme and is now well-positioned to attract increased investment.
He stated that Ghana is “back on track and open for business,” pointing to renewed investor confidence in the country’s economy.
The President also outlined his government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy programme, which is aimed at increasing production, promoting manufacturing and industrialisation, creating sustainable jobs and boosting economic growth.
As part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s export sector, President Mahama disclosed that the government has established an Accelerated Export Development Advisory Committee to drive the country’s transition towards an export-led economy.
He expressed Ghana’s interest in collaborating with Wisconsin, particularly in the agricultural sector, while indicating that both sides are prepared to explore additional areas of economic and commercial cooperation.
President Mahama further briefed the delegation on government initiatives to expand access to education and develop the skilled workforce needed to support Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.
Governor Tony Evers described the trade mission as an important step in strengthening international partnerships, saying it seeks to position Wisconsin as a competitive destination for business growth while creating new opportunities for trade and investment between Wisconsin and Ghana.
