President Mahama Launches Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 to Boost Innovation in Agriculture

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 in Accra, underlining the critical role of innovation and technology in transforming agriculture into a key driver of national prosperity and economic growth.

Themed “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology,” the fair gathers stakeholders from agriculture, technology, and agribusiness to explore solutions that enhance productivity and strengthen local agribusiness capabilities.

Speaking at the opening, President Mahama emphasised that the event goes beyond displaying machinery and technology. He stated that it connects ideas to enterprise, research to industry, and innovation to investment, shifting agriculture from a sector of survival to one of opportunity, productivity, and wealth creation.

He highlighted the need for homegrown technological solutions across the agricultural value chain, adding:

“No nation can modernise its agricultural economy while relying indefinitely on imported machinery and technology. Ghana must develop the capacity to design, fabricate, adapt, maintain, and scale agricultural technologies locally.”

In support of farmers, President Mahama announced the groundbreaking of the first Farmer Service Centre on March 17 at Afram Plains, part of a nationwide plan to establish 50 centres. These centres will provide mechanisation support, training, and guidance from extension officers on production, processing, transport, and value addition.

The Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 offers a platform for researchers, investors, and industry players to explore technological innovations, modernise agribusiness practices, and strengthen Ghana’s agricultural sector for increased productivity and profitability.
