The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekondi College (SEKCO) has announced plans to petition the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to grant 154 students another opportunity to write their Chemistry Theory and Objective examination after they were barred from taking the paper.
According to the PTA, the candidates were denied entry into the examination hall on Wednesday due to alleged lateness, which was reportedly caused by heavy rainfall in the Sekondi-Takoradi area that morning.
Speaking to Citi News on Friday, June 12, PTA Chairperson Mercy Dadzie explained that some of the students, including her own child, arrived shortly after the exam had begun but were still refused entry by an external invigilator.
She indicated that parents also intend to seek the intervention of the Western Regional Minister to help resolve the issue.
Mrs. Dadzie appealed to WAEC to reconsider the situation, stressing that the students’ academic futures were at stake. She argued that even if the candidates were late, they could have been allowed to write the paper with the lost time deducted or sanctioned accordingly, rather than being completely excluded from the exam.
