The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Finance, has approved the release of GH₵76,466,919.20 to support the national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The allocation is split into two main payments aimed at ensuring smooth preparation and participation in the tournament.
A total of GH₵58,929,500, equivalent to US$5 million, has been released as an advance to cover preparations and expenses for the team’s group-stage involvement. Government indicated that this funding is intended to provide the necessary resources for optimal performance at the global competition.
In addition, GH₵17,537,419.20, equivalent to US$1,488,000, has been disbursed to settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to the players and technical team. These payments form part of a performance-based agreement, under which players received half of their qualifying bonuses during the campaign, with the remainder due upon qualification.
The government reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting the Black Stars and broader sports development, stating that the funding is meant to ensure stability and allow the team to focus fully on their performance at the World Cup.
It also called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they represent the country on football’s biggest stage.
