The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced that the State Transport Company (STC) will receive 140 new buses within the next two months as part of the government’s efforts to improve public transportation services across the country.
The move comes in response to ongoing concerns about inadequate transport services, overcrowding, delays, and the increasing demand for intercity travel. Many commuters and long-distance travellers have called for improved transport options to ease the challenges they face daily.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, June 8, the Minister said the government is implementing measures to expand the national transport fleet and enhance mobility nationwide. He explained that the transport expansion programme extends beyond the 100 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses recently commissioned.
According to Mr. Nikpe, an additional 100 MMT buses are expected to arrive within the next two months, while STC will also receive 140 buses to strengthen its operations.
He expressed confidence that the new buses would significantly increase transport capacity, improve connectivity between towns and cities, and provide commuters with more reliable and convenient travel options.
