The Junior Narh (JN) Groups in collaboration with Endless Events, non-governmental organisations, have organised a joint political peace walk in Kpone to educate and promote peace ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Supporters of the various political parties, traditional leaders and youth in the Kpone-Katamanso constituency participated in the peace walk.

Mr. Jonathan Tettey Tetteh, the founder of the JN Groups told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that in their bid to support a peaceful general election, the groups came together with the political parties to have a peace walk to show their togetherness and ensure a smooth peaceful election.

He noted that the walk was to educate the community members that they only have one constituency and that there was no need to cause chaos and misunderstanding because of party affiliations.

He said, “the day of the elections is not a day for misunderstanding or chaos but a day when the people exercise their franchise as citizens. So let us put our political differences aside and vote for peace.”

Mr Tetteh advised the people in the community to vote with the development of the constituency in mind and not their personal gains or political party’s interest.

He also urged the youth of Kpone to stand for peace and ensure there was peace in the constituency during and even after the elections.

Mr. William Nuertey Josiah, the Presiding Member of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) said that elections were not periods for fights or insults but sharing ideas on the policies that all the political parties had presented and the policies that would help the country’s development.

Mr. Josiah stated that since the year 1992, the constituency had always promoted peaceful exercise and appealed to the people to exercise their civic responsibilities with patience and restrain from massing up at the polling stations.

He advised the aspirants and party supporters who would win that their celebrations and jubilations should not be done to taunt the losing party as such activities create fights and chaos.

Mr. Robert Akpeng, a unit committee member of the Laloi electoral area and a member of the New Patriotic Party said that the constituency executives of the party have put measures in place to ensure quiet and peaceful elections in the constituency.

He urged the youths and all the party supporters to ensure peace in constituency and vote for the right leader for the betterment of the constituency and country.

Madam Sophia Mensah, the Kpone sector coordinator of the National Democratic Congress, also pleaded with the constituents to maintain peaceful and smooth elections.

She again pleaded with the community, especially youths, not to be influenced by the political parties to cause a fight or chaos at the polling stations and in the constituency.
