The University Hospital, Legon, has suspended its General Outpatient, Specialist Clinics and Pharmacy counselling services amid the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, the hospital said the affected services would be suspended from Thursday, August 13, 2026, until further notice.
The hospital attributed the decision to the ongoing GAUA strike, which has disrupted administrative operations at public universities.
The Emergency Department, however, remains operational and will continue to provide care to patients requiring emergency medical attention.
GAUA embarked on the industrial action over concerns about the implementation of its conditions of service and other outstanding issues affecting the welfare of university administrators.
The association has been calling for the resolution of issues it says have remained unresolved despite engagements with the relevant authorities.
The strike has affected administrative activities across public universities, with institutions taking measures to manage the impact on their operations.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is expected to meet representatives of GAUA this week as part of efforts to resolve the issues underpinning the industrial action.
The outcome of the engagement could determine the next steps for the association and the affected university institutions, including the University Hospital, Legon.
