Mr Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, has received briefing on the state of earth-moving equipment in the Region under the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP).

The DRIP is a government initiative aimed at improving road networks in rural areas across the country, under which all 15 Districts in the Upper East Region received their share of the equipment under the previous administration.

The equipment included tipper tracks, backhoe, water tankers, rollers, motor graders, wheel loaders, bulldozers, low bed and concrete mixers.

Mr Osman Musah, the Regional Director of the DRIP, who gave the briefing on the Minister’s request, said 10 of the equipment were parked at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), while seven others were at the various Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs).

He said the equipment were being handled by 20 trained operators and their assistants in the Region within the various Municipalities and Districts.

The DRIP Director told the Minister that each MDA had formed seven-member Committees and Coordinators, who supervised and managed the use of the earth-moving equipment, and that J. A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited, a construction equipment supplier, was the Company responsible for their maintenance.

Mr Musah said the Company had assigned and deployed two Engineers to address any possible technical issues with the equipment under the DRIP.

The Minister, after the briefing, called the need for effective and maximum use of the equipment for their intended purposes, and thanked the Director for the update urging him to continue to ensure sustained maintenance of the equipment.
