The United States Embassy in Ghana has hosted a training workshop for sports journalists and bloggers in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The session brought together over 30 media professionals and focused on enhancing coverage of the tournament through lessons in reporting standards, storytelling techniques, and emerging trends in sports journalism.
Resource persons included Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, alongside journalists Gary Al-Smith and Eva Okyere.
Participants were guided through FIFA media rules, ethical reporting practices, and strategies for generating compelling stories before, during, and after the competition. The workshop also emphasised digital storytelling and effective audience engagement.
According to the Embassy, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen sports journalism in Ghana ahead of the global tournament.
Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson further encouraged journalists and fans to apply early for visas to avoid last-minute challenges. He also cautioned against overstaying, noting that visa violations could negatively impact future travel opportunities.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
