The Lands Commission has advised buyers to verify the ownership of lands before making purchases.
In an interview on the Sunrise Morning show monitored by MyGhanadaily, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Alhaji Mahama said that the sale of the same piece of land to multiple people is becoming a trend in Ghana therefore buyers should be on their guard.
According to him, this trend is most common among indigenous families and clans in Accra therefore potential buyers must verify the source of lands, especially those in such areas.
Mr. Mahama further stated that the Commission has come to a realization that families and even clans that are supposed to own lands are mutating. He revealed that within the same family you find several branches of them selling the same piece of land at different times to different people.
Moreover, since they are not in the capacity to transact, the power lies in the head of the family, approved by elders of that particular family to grant sale of the land. If this is not done, it often leads to multiple sales of the same land to different people, resulting in a lot of trouble.
