Voting started an hour late at the Taxi Rank Bulemin Polling Station “A” in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.

Madam Kate Kusenu, the Presiding Officer at the Polling Station, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the first person voted at exactly 0802 hours.

However, as the BVD machine failed to work, it could not capture prospective voters’ fingerprints.

She said after several trials the BVD captured the fingerprint, and the first voter was able to vote at exactly 0802 hours, about an hour later than the 070o hours that voting was expected to begin.

Five hundred and seventy-seven voters were on the Voter Register.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed that only the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) agents were at the polling station observing the elections.

There was also a police officer maintaining law and order.

There was no canopy to provide shade for the electoral officers as they were sitting under scorching sun.

Five parliamentary candidates are contesting the Weija-Gbawe Constituency parliamentary seat.

They are Jerry Ahmed Shaib, of the NPP; Felix Odartey Lamptey, of the NDC; George Obeng Fynn, of the All People’s Congress (APC); and Saviour Kofi Gbeze of Convention People’s Party (CPP).
