The Wesley International School won the first position in a quiz competition organised by the New Juaben South Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

The event was held under the theme: “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility.” The maiden quiz competition was held in Koforidua to mark the year-long commemoration of the 68th Independence Day anniversary.

The participating schools were the Wesley International School, Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Basic School, Trinity Presbyterian Royal School, and Brentford Academy.

The Wesley International School won the first position with 22 points in the three rounds of the quiz competition and grabbed a trophy, gold medal, certificates of participation and merit. Brentford Academy placed second with 18 points, and SDA Basic School placed third with 16 points.

In his address, Mr. Clement Donkor, New Juaben South Municipal NCCE Director, said the Commission, among its functions was to create and increase awareness of the main values of democratic governance, instill in the citizens the spirit of patriotism, and enhance citizens participation in governance.

He said the questions for the quiz were selected from the 1992 constitution and other general knowledge, and expressed the hope that it will boost the students’ interest to join the Civic Education Clubs in their respective schools.

Ms. Juliet Yeboah Simpey, Deputy Director at the Eastern Regional Office of the NCCE, represented the Regional Director and said the contest was organised to make the Independence Day celebration an exceptional, memorable in students’ minds and keep them abreast with the 1992 constitution.

The National Commission for Civic Education is an independent, non-partisan governance institution set up under Article 231 of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the National Commission for Civic Education Act, 1993, Act 452 of the Parliament of Ghana.
