Former lawmaker Hon. Dr. William Akoto to go home on November 19

Former Member of Parliament for Birim North Constituency, Hon. Dr. William Boakye Akoto will be laid to rest this weekend November, 19 to November 20, 2022.

The reputable lawmaker passed on March 3, 2022, after a short illness.

Hon. Dr. Akoto was born in Pakyi, a town near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on the 3rd May 1955 to Hon. Solomon Osei Akoto (Former Minister of Communications – Busia Government, Former Member of Parliament Abirim, Founding Member Progress Party, Founding Member New Patriotic Party) and Madam Ama Yesereh, both of blessed memory.

He attended Amarpe for his primary education, Prempeh College for senior secondary education, and tertiary education at the University of Ghana. He continued in Canada where he graduated with two Master’s degrees from the University of Guelph and later attended the University of Toronto to obtain his Ph.D.

Hon. Dr. Akoto was first elected into Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party during the December 2000 Ghanaian General Elections.

Hon. Dr. William Kwadwo Boakye Akoto was hardworking and enjoyed political debates and the exchange of diverse political views.  He was a founding member of the New Patriotic Party, Canada branch. Also, he was a former publisher of the African Connection Newspaper in Toronto.

Later, Hon. Dr. William Akoto relocated to Ghana and pursued his passion for utilizing politics to bring about substantial change to his beloved country.

Throughout his political career, he served as Head of Education the Committee in the Parliament of Ghana, Government Advisor, and as a Professor at the University of Toronto.

Hon. Dr. Akoto will be laid in State on Saturday 19th November 2022 at Akoasi at 4:30 am.

The burial service will follow at 8:30 am at Akoasi Bethel Methodist Church.
Later, at 12:00PM, the funeral rites will be held at the Akoasi Funeral Grounds, and at 11:30 am on the same premises, will be the Interment at the Akoasi Bethel Methodist Cemetry.

Following will be the thanksgiving service on Sunday, 20th November 2022 at the Akoasi Bethel Methodist Church at 8:00 am. Finally, at 12:00PM, there will be a family gathering at the Akoasi Funeral Grounds.

The dress code for the burial ceremony is black. All friends and sympathizers are cordially invited. All Covid-19 protocols will be enforced.
