Horsham Education Consult (Horsham Ed) in collaboration with the MountCrest University College has launched a special scheme to promote reading and research among tertiary students and professionals.

Dubbed, the “Horsham Online Library Project”, it seeks to offer access to the world’s largest online libraries to address the high cost of books and other educational materials which tend to discourage students from reading thoroughly to master the subjects that they study, leading to high levels of plagiarism and poor academic work output.

The Lead Consultant at Horsham Ed, Irene Ansa-Asare, who is also the Rector of Mountcrest University College, explained that Horsham Ed was collaborating with the university to support students to access highly subsidised online books and other materials as well as offer them some educational services to improve their studies.

“Besides the access to online libraries, students and professionals who engage in the project will get access to webinars and quiet study rooms in the Horsham Ed building in Accra.

“Students and professionals will have access to Perlego, the world’s largest academic online library for university textbooks, and professional development books (over 800,000 books),” Ms  Ansa-Asare pointed out.

For Law students, she added that they would get access to Perlego plus law databases, including JUDY Legal (a comprehensive database of caselaw and legislation from Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya); Casebook (caselaw summaries at your fingertips) and Westlaw Classic (a comprehensive international database of caselaw, legislation, treaties, and journals).

“The webinars will cover Business, Writing, Tax, Technology, Labour Law, Banking Law, Contracts, Corporate Governance, Wills, Constitutional Rights and How to Start a business in Ghana.

“Other topics will include Book-keeping, Marketing, communication, entrepreneurship, publishing, how to write law essays and examinations, writing for grants, proposals, blogs, letters, memos and curriculum vitae (CV),” Ms Ansa-Asare explained.

She added that all certificates of participation in the webinars, seminars and workshops would be awarded by the Mountcrest University College, while facilitators and speakers would be drawn from top universities and renowned institutions in Ghana and abroad.

In a related development, the university has offered scholarships to some law students under the Kufuor Scholars Programme.

Others have also benefitted from scholarships under the auspices of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaana Abukari and the Queenmother of the Okuapeman Traditional Area, Nana Nketiaa Obuo II.
