All issue regarding land for the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality Agenda 111 Hospital Project, the government’s flagship programme for the municipality, has been resolved for the project to take off following an assessment visit to the site by stakeholders and key parties for the project.
The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Hospital with 100 beds sited at Otinibi in the municipality should have started last year but got delayed due to litigation over the 15 acre land for the project.
Present at the meeting at the project site where all negotiations were done included the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jennifer Dede Adjabeng; the Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, and the owners of the land and security personnel.
The rest were the assembly members, some selected heads of department of the assembly and Michael Henaku, the claimant of the land.
The MCE, in her opening remarks at the site, said she was happy there was mutual understanding that had enabled the contractor to start work.
She explained that the Agenda 111 project for the municipality was a burning issue which was fiercely debated by assembly members which featured mostly in all assembly meetings.
According to Mrs Adjabeng, in the assembly’s quest to seek for land for the project, a number of chiefs were engaged after which a final decision was made to settle at the current site.
She disclosed that the issue of land litigation and its related land guards became a thorny issue which delayed the contractor from moving to site for the smooth take off of the project last year.
She said after due process, the original owners of the land were found after the assembly contacted the Lands Commission that ascertained the true owners of the land.
Dr Nsiah-Asare, explaining further, said it was good that all parties were present to seek a common front for the all-important project to start.
‘’Once the traditional leaders have agreed to give out the land, it is my hope that the project will start peacefully by the contractor so that all other issues will be considered later’’, Dr Nsiah Asare emphasised.
The Agenda 111 project includes the construction of 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in newly created regions across the country, as well as one regional hospital in the Western Region, two psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale and the redevelopment of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
