Government is ready to improve road network in the Bono East-Road Minister . Mr. Francis Asenso -Boakye, Minister for Roads and Highways has reiterated the government’s commitment to fixing the roads in the Bono East Region to promote the socio-economic development of the area.
The Road Minister noted that roads would contribute to the overall development of the area since they supported the movement of goods and services of the people to generate income for quality living conditions.
Mr. Asenso- Boakye made the announcement on Thursday during his working visit to the area to inspect roads in some communities, including Bouyam, Asueyi, Kwame Danso and Busua Township Atebubu Yeji all in the Bono East Region.
According to the Minister, roads were essential in man’s life since they could facilitate the movement of goods and services for community development and was therefore the government priority to improve the road network in achieving such necessity.
Mr. Aseso- Boakye inspected a 19.9 kilometres deplorable road at Asueyi, 8.2 kilometres at Asueyi-Buoyam road, and 3.5 kilometres from Asueyi Junction to Asueyi and 8.2 kilometres at Krobo to Agosa roads and gave assurance of getting them fix as soon as possible to ensure smooth movement in the area.
The Road Minister later inspected 5.80 kilometres at Busua in the Nkoranza North district township roads, which were under construction, saying it would be completed on time to the benefit of the people in the district.
He pointed out that fixing the roads would not only protect lives and property but would equally promote tourism to generate revenue for the Assembly to keep up health, education and other sectors in the area.
Nana Oti Panin II of Asueyi and Nana Dasebrea Ameyaw Kwarteng Amani Ampong II of Buoyam in the Techiman traditional area lamented the deplorable state of the roads and the harm it had caused commuters over the years and call for the quick construction of the roads to save lives and properties in the area.
The Chiefs informed the Minister about how thieves and armed robbers had also taken advantage of the bad state of the roads to raid and harass the road users for years.
He said the area was endowed with tourist attractions but was of low patronage due to the state of the roads, adding that public servants such as teachers and health professionals had refused postings to the areas due to the same bad situation which at the end was affecting the general development of the towns.
