Pastor Nana Boame Jones, Project Manager, Forshes Africa Foundation, has called on survivors of breast cancer to share their stories and experiences to offer hope to newly diagnosed patients with the disease.

He urged women to take proactive steps towards ensuring that they were in good health.

Pastor Nana Boame speaking at an event organised by the Foundation at the Hohoe Baptist International Church on the theme, “Early detection Save lives,” said being proactive towards breast cancer was biblical.

“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Proverbs 27:12 NIV”.

He said the scripture emphasised the value of being cautious and taking preventive actions to avoid harm.

Pastor Nana Boame said in the context of breast cancer, early detection through screening was a wise and proactive step to potentially saved lives by addressing the disease before it progressed.

The Forshes Africa Foundation, an international non-governmental organisation based in Ghana with the aims of supporting and empowering women organised the event.

It was to create awareness on breast cancer and also screen women of the disease which benefitted many.

Mr Jonas Ntikie Njibe, Oncology Nurse Specialist, Volta Regional Hospital, Hohoe, said breast cancer occurred when cells in the breast began to grow uncontrollably.

He said although the disease could affect both men and women, it was far common in the latter.

Mr Njibe said understanding the symptoms, risk factors and prevention methods was crucial in detecting the disease early and improving the chances of successful treatment.

He said there was no sure way to prevent breast cancer, but some lifestyle decisions could reduce the risk of breast cancer.

“We must all avoid excessive alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, follow healthy diet, get enough exercise, maintain healthy weight and nursing mothers must breastfeed babies after birth.”

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its kind gestures
