    GAMA SWP Coordinator receives Honorary Doctorate award

    Mr George Asiedu, an Engineer and the Project Coordinator of the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) has received Honorary Directorate award from the International Kingdom University (IKU), Florida, USA for his dedicated leadership and service to humanity.

    The award was conferred on him at the 26th edition of the Global Doctoral Humanitarian and Ministerial Excellence Award 2024, held at the Executive Community Church at Kasoa-Opeikuma in the Central Region.

    The event was on the theme: “Naming and Honouring Our Leaders and Citizens who have touched and Impacted Lives in Our 21st Century.”

    Mr Asiedu was among 16 candidates chosen by the Selecting Committee of the IKU for his unwavering dedication in improving sanitation and water accessibility in Greater Accra, highlighting him as a true humanitarian and leader.

    He received a citation, a plaque, and honorary certificate presented by Archbishop General Obenfo, George Slezer Ofori-Atah, Primate/Prelate of the Council of World Bishops and Clergies.

    The committee remarked: “Mr George Asiedu has demonstrated exceptional commitment and integrity in his service to humanity,” adding; “His contribution to his community and the nation have been significant, especially in youth empowerment and capacity building.”

    It stated that Mr Asiedu’s work with the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project has been pivotal in addressing critical sanitation challenges in the Greater Accra and Kumasi Urban communities enhancing quality of life for countless residents.

    “His exceptional leadership skills which combines humility, integrity, innovation, compassion, vision and agility, further affirms his suitability for this honorary recognition,” the committee affirmed.

    It noted that, “The honorary Doctoral Degree of Executive Leadership in Humanity (DEL) Reflects Reverend Dr Christian Heim, the Vice Chancellor of the International Kingdom University (IKU) in a speech said the theme reflected on the University’s commitment to recognising excellence and service, stating, “We believe in honouring the living rather than the deceased.”

    He appealed to government, philanthropies, and well-meaning individuals to support the IKU to establish permanent campus in Ghana.

    “We are seeking land acquisition to build a state-of-the-art campus that will provide quality education, research, and community development opportunities for people of Ghana and beyond,” he stated.

    Rev Dr Heim expressed gratitude to Professor Hayford Tweneboah-Koduah, Global Academic Dean, and Apostle Dr Edward Ofori Nti, Global Dean of Students, Ghana, both of IKU for their dedication in promoting the award project in Ghana.

    Mr Asiedu under his leadership and guidance of the GAMA Sanitation and Water Project, and WASH project for the past decade have significantly improve hygiene and water accessibility in the Greater Accra and Kumasi Regions.

    In March, this year, the Institute of Engineers honoured them with the Engineering Excellence Award for its outstanding contributions to the WASH sector.

    Mr Asiedu in an interview with the Ghana News Agency expressed gratitude to the organisers of the award programme for the recognition and honour done them and gave assurance of doing more for the benefit of society.

    He said: “As humans we need to be of benefit to our communities by initiating programmes to enhance their lives and for the past ten years as the Coordinator of GAMA this has been my focus.”
