Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has announced that President John Mahama will officially open the four-day Stakeholder Education Review Conference, scheduled to take place in Takoradi starting February 17, 2025.

The unions included the National Union of Ghana Students, the Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana, the National Health Students Association of Ghana, and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana. He advised the unions to prepare and present papers with recommendations aimed at improving the education sector.

The Minister said that it was important to implement measures to ensure that the education system met the country’s needs and was fit for purpose. He also mentioned that the government remained committed to creating a conducive environment for the success of education.

Acknowledging challenges within the sector, Mr. Iddrisu expressed optimism that the stakeholder dialogue would bring important issues to light. He pledged to pursue aggressive infrastructure projects in universities through stakeholder discussions to enhance teaching and learning.

President Mahama, speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba on January 9, 2025, outlined his vision for a comprehensive review of the education system, which would span from kindergarten to tertiary levels, including technical and vocational education.

The President said that the conference would identify obstacles to quality education and generate actionable recommendations to improve outcomes across the sector. He noted that the conference would also produce innovative ideas to shape educational policies and better align them with the country’s developmental needs.
