    2 Garrison Education Unit launches 60th anniversary, GAFTA 50th anniversary celebrations

    The 2 Garrison Education Centre (2 GEC) and the Ghana Armed Forces Teacher’s Association (GAFTA), in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, have launched their 60th and 50th anniversary celebrations respectively.

    The anniversary launch coincided with the Centre’s annual get together, which sought to award retirees, facilitators, past and active learners for their hard-work, contribution and commitment to the Centre. The celebration was on the theme: “Bridging the Gap, Building Futures, 60 Years of Holistic Education”.

    Lieutenant Colonel Saviour Hadju, 2 Garrison Education Director, said education played a major role in every country’s development therefore the need to honor teachers and learners to keep on with the hard work to help build a better Ghana. He commended the hard-work and dedication of the 2 Garrison staff and urged them to continue to strive for excellence. In all six retirees, twenty-six BECE candidates, six learners who excelled in the French and STEM quiz competition and hardworking facilitators and students were awarded for excellence.

    Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwafo, Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, who chaired   the event, congratulated the 2 GEC for their excellent contributions to Ghana’s education. He urged facilitators and staff of the Centre to continue to strive for success and direct learners on the path that would help them attain greater heights to help them become responsible future leaders.

    Commodore Kwafo said the theme for the event served as a reminder of the transformative role education played in shaping lives and communities. “The 2 Garrison Education Centre has become a beckon of knowledge and character development of learners, creating opportunities for the future “, he said. Mr. Philip Fiifi Buckman, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim Constituency, emphasized  the role the 2 GEC had played in shaping learners for the future. He commended them for their enormous contributions in shaping the lives of learners to become responsible adults in the future.

    He reiterated the need for First Aid Education to be included in the education curriculum at the basic level of education to ensure that learners acquired the requisite knowledge when confronted with minor casualties and accidents.

    The Regional Education Directorate also acknowledged the 2 Garrison Education Centre for their dedication and commitment in fostering good academic excellence in the lives of young people in the Western Region. The 2 Garrison Education Centre, Takoradi, is one of the seven Garrison school management units in the Ghana Armed Forces Education Corps and has fourteen schools which are located within four separate clusters with   Services Basic school being the first to be established a year after the nation’s independence.
