KGL Foundation a registered Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organisation has commissioned a borehole at Kalande in the Salaga South Municipality in the Savannah Region, to address water challenges in the community.

Mr Nii Ankonu Annorbah-Sarpei, the Programmes Manager at KGL Foundation, at the handing over ceremony, said the commissioning of the borehole aimed to address the problem of access to safe water in the community. He said the absence of portable drinking water was a major challenge confronting the community which seldom led to poor health and reduced productivity in the area.

Mr Annorbah-Sarpei said the provision of the borehole in the community was vital for many families and essential for sustaining community health. He said his outfit started the borehole drilling and construction works last October in its target areas to reduce water challenges in these communities.

The beneficiary communities include Binduri, Kassena-Nankana West, and the Bawku West districts, in the Upper East Region, North Gonja, West Gonja, North East Gonja, and the East Gonja districts in the Savannah region, Yunyoo Nasuan, and Bunkpurugu districts in the North East Region and Lambussie in the Upper West Region.

Mr Sarpei said the boreholes would soon be completed, adding that they would be mechanised to supply safe water to target communities to improve the water situation as part of efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on water and health. Nana Broni Solomon Kwesi Pampamdi II, the Chief of Kalande, expressed gratitude to KGL Foundation for the support and said it would be a reliable source of safe water for the people in Kalande.

Mr Charles Imoru, the Assembly Member for the Kalande Electoral Area, said the borehole would address water challenges in the Kalande community, and called on government and other NGOs to support the Kalande community with development projects to enhance the livelihoods of the people. KGL Foundation, seeks to empower local communities to respond to poverty, improve health care and focus on the thematic areas of youth empowerment, Education and arts and culture.
