Dr Clement Abass Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, has urged media practitioners to interrogate issues on education passionately to help the government identify areas for transformation.

Dr Apaak underscored the important role of the media, saying, “Your advocacy role is indeed indispensable in sustaining implementation of policies that will emerge from the National Education Forum.”

The Deputy Minister said this in Accra on Monday at the opening ceremony of a media engagement on the country’s education Forum on the theme, “Transforming Education for a Sustainable Future.” The event was organised by the National Education Reform Committee in collaboration with GIZ.

The event brought together editors and journalists on education desks to solicit their ideas on the ongoing education forum across the country. The Forum which started on February 19, 2025, engaged stakeholders across the country, including the religious bodies and the student unions, under five thematic areas. The areas are infrastructure; quality education; regulations, accountability and governance; education financing; and research and data.

Participants were grouped into breakout sessions to discuss the thematic areas and make presentations on recommendations to improve education outcomes.

Dr Apaak said the committee deemed it necessary to move beyond the normal trend of engaging media houses just to cover but, more importantly, to proffer ideas for the transformation of education. The media, he said, were critical stakeholders whose views should not be neglected in the consultations on ways of transforming education to ensure that it met the human capital required to reset the nation.

“We find your experiences and perspectives very relevant to the current discourses on education, especially on the implementation of the Free Senior High School programme introduced by the former government,” he said.
