The Accra High Court has granted bail to the former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware Mensah, in the sum of GH¢10 million with three sureties.

Mrs. Oware Mensah has pleaded not guilty to several charges, including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering, after allegedly creating over 9,000 ghost names in the NSA’s Central Management System, resulting in a loss of more than GH¢38 million.

During proceedings on Wednesday, October 22, her lawyers, led by Nana Banyin Ackon (holding brief for Gary Nimako), applied for bail, arguing that she poses no flight risk. They noted that she is a mother of a three-year-old child, has cooperated fully with investigators since voluntarily reporting to the National Investigations Bureau, and is undergoing medical treatment, a fact already communicated to the prosecution.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, did not oppose the bail request but requested that the conditions ensure the accused’s availability for court proceedings.

Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay granted the bail with conditions that two of the sureties must justify with landed property, and all sureties must submit their Ghana Cards and residential addresses to the court registrar. Mrs. Oware Mensah is also required to report to the police on the first Tuesday and Thursday of every month, deposit her passport with the registrar, and have her name placed on the Stop List at all national entry points.

The case has been adjourned to November 25, with the prosecution expected to file disclosures by November 19.
