The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will remove import duties on sanitary pads if its mandate is renewed for the next four years.

The intervention, according to Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is aimed at reducing its market price thereby encouraging patronage.

The move is also to promote personal hygiene and health for all women especially girls.

Dr Bawumia made this known during the launch of the party’s manifesto at the University of Cape Coast on Saturday, August 22, 2020 on the theme “Leadership of service, protecting our progress, transforming Ghana for all”.

“We will eliminate import duties on sanitary pads to improve health conditions, particularly for girls…“, he stated.

In addition, Dr Bawumia said they will enforce the agenda 111, formerly called agenda 88 that seeks to build district hospitals across the country.

He added that two psychiatric hospitals and seven regional hospitals will be built in the six new regions, and one in the Western Region as well as the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Government Hospital in the same region.

He also gave the assurance that the NPP will scale up primary healthcare education through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to achieve universal health coverage.
