CAGD Warns Public Sector Workers: Salaries to Be Suspended Over Unverified Ghana Card Details from March 15

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has directed all public sector employees to verify their Ghana Card details on the government payroll system or risk having their salaries suspended effective March 15, 2026.

In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the Department explained that the rollout of an upgraded e-Payslip platform revealed significant data inconsistencies within the mechanised payroll system. These discrepancies largely stem from mismatches between National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers captured on the payroll and the official biometric records held by the National Identification Authority.

To resolve the issue, the CAGD has tasked the Human Resource Departments of all affected covered entities to urgently reconcile the mismatched data. The exercise is aimed at ensuring that every public sector employee on the payroll is correctly linked to a verified biometric identity.

Institutions affected by the directive include key state agencies such as the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service, the Judicial Service of Ghana, and the security services—namely the Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and Ghana National Fire Service.

Other affected institutions include the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the Ghana Audit Service.

The CAGD stressed that failure to resolve the identified discrepancies before the deadline would result in affected employees being removed from the payroll until their records are fully verified.
