More than 60,000 members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) are set to embark on a nationwide strike beginning March 9, 2026.

The Association says the industrial action is intended to press home its demand for the immediate implementation of its Conditions of Service, which were concluded and approved in 2023.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra on February 19, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo, stated that the decision follows what he described as prolonged delays by the appropriate authorities in addressing the concerns of members.

According to him, the Association remains open to dialogue but insists that concrete steps must be taken to implement the agreed terms.

If carried through, the strike is expected to affect operations across civil and local government offices nationwide.

It would be recalled that in March 2025, CLOGSAG embarked on a similar strike action over the same concerns. This prompted the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, to appeal to the leadership of the Association to call off the strike.

The Minister noted that the continuous industrial action had negatively impacted government business and urged the leadership to prioritise dialogue while engagements with relevant authorities continue.

Meanwhile, CLOGSAG has petitioned the Minister over the need to reassign the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, arguing that the official is politically exposed and that his continued presence could compromise the neutrality of the Civil Service.

Dr. Pelpuo has since assured that efforts are underway to resolve the impasse, noting that President John Dramani Mahama is concerned about the ongoing strike and hopeful that the matter will be addressed through continued engagement.

CLOGSAG leadership has, however, urged the sector Minister to respond to their petition, stressing that their concerns go beyond the Births and Deaths Registry and are in the broader interest of safeguarding the integrity of the Civil Service.
