Some employees of Adamus Resources Limited have gathered at the entrance of the company’s concession, demanding access after the government revoked its mining leases.
The situation follows the deployment of military personnel to the site, with security tightened across the concession. Reports indicate that soldiers have been stationed from the Esiama gate through all operational areas, effectively restricting movement within the mining zone.
The revocation, announced by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, affects the Akango, Salman, and Nkroful concessions. It comes after investigations by the Minerals Commission, which cited alleged regulatory violations, unauthorised mining activities, and environmental breaches.
However, Adamus Resources has strongly contested the decision, arguing that it was made without due process. The company insists the allegations do not accurately represent its operations and maintains that it holds valid licenses issued under Ghana’s regulatory framework, including approvals from the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency in line with the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703).
In its response, the company stated it was not formally informed of the allegations nor given an opportunity to respond, describing the move as a violation of administrative fairness.
Adamus also denied any involvement in illegal mining or unlawful subcontracting, reaffirming its commitment to responsible mining and environmental protection.
Meanwhile, the government maintains that the revocation is based on serious infractions, including unauthorised subcontracting, lack of approved mining plans, and environmental damage to water bodies and ecosystems. Authorities have also indicated that the action could lead to possible criminal prosecution of the company’s leadership.
Officials say the decision forms part of broader efforts to strengthen regulatory enforcement and ensure compliance within Ghana’s mining sector, while measures are being considered to support affected workers.
