Koforidua High Court Grants Bail to Former NPP Chairman Freddie Blay

The Koforidua High Court has granted bail to former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, in the amount of GH₵800,000 with two sureties, both residents of Accra holding valid Ghana Cards.

The bail follows his earlier remand by the Akropong Circuit Court over an alleged demolition dispute at Kitase. Mr. Blay is scheduled to appear before the circuit court on April 9 as investigations continue.

He was taken into custody by the Akropong Police after an arrest warrant was executed in Accra on Monday, March 16, 2026. The dispute arises from claims that he ordered the demolition of a house under construction on Kitase land. The landowner reportedly filed a complaint after Mr. Blay did not respond to earlier inquiries, leading to charges and the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Sources close to Mr. Blay assert he was unaware of the warrant prior to his arrest. They maintain the matter concerns land acquired by him in 1994 and that he did not authorize the demolition of any building, but only cleared bare land in January 2026 to prevent the breeding of harmful animals.

The sources also noted that although the complainant had previously won a favorable ruling at the Koforidua High Court, that decision is now under appeal, and attempts to serve the complainant with appeal documents have reportedly failed.
