The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has called for a more respectful and thoughtful national conversation on family values, particularly on LGBTQ+ matters, urging key stakeholders to prioritise unity over division.

In a pastoral statement, the Bishops appealed to government, Parliament, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and civil society to engage in discussions that are grounded in mutual respect, moral clarity, and a shared commitment to national cohesion.

They emphasised that the manner in which issues are discussed is just as important as the substance, cautioning that insensitive or dismissive language could erode trust and deepen divisions within society.

According to the Conference, ongoing debates around family, marriage, and social values must involve all relevant groups and be approached with seriousness and responsibility.

The Bishops clarified that their intention is not to impose views but to contribute meaningfully to national discourse, offering perspectives shaped by conscience, scripture, and reason.

They expressed confidence that patient and sincere dialogue allows truth to emerge naturally without force or coercion.

The statement further noted that Ghana is at a critical stage where questions of economic progress intersect with moral identity, stressing that decisions made now will have lasting implications for future generations.

The Bishops therefore called for wisdom, compassion, and justice in shaping national conversations, while underscoring the need to protect human dignity and uphold the family as a core pillar of society.

They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to fostering dialogue that promotes understanding, stability, and the common good, while entrusting the nation to divine guidance.
