The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited to suspend its planned 0.75% charge on wallet-to-bank transfers, pending further stakeholder consultations.
The fee, which was initially scheduled to take effect on June 1, 2026, has been put on hold following concerns raised over its possible impact on digital transactions, customer costs, and financial inclusion.
According to the central bank, the decision is part of efforts to ensure that changes within Ghana’s mobile financial services sector are implemented fairly and in a way that protects consumers.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the BoG said it remains committed to maintaining balance in the ecosystem while safeguarding the financial wellbeing of users.
The proposed fee had generated public debate since its announcement, with many stakeholders questioning its implications for mobile money usage and bank transfer costs.
The central bank did not provide a timeline for the conclusion of consultations or indicate whether the fee would be revised or permanently withdrawn after the review process.
