NADMO Activates Emergency Centres Nationwide as Flooding Hits Parts of Accra

The National Disaster Management Organisation has activated emergency operation centres across the country in response to heavy rains that have caused flooding in several parts of Accra, leading to submerged homes and widespread property damage.

The measure is intended to improve coordination of rescue and relief operations, with response teams placed on standby in communities identified as flood-prone as the rainy season intensifies.

Speaking to Citi News, a Senior Officer at NADMO’s Inspectorate Department, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, explained that the organisation’s decentralised structure allows for quick mobilisation of emergency responders once reports of flooding are received.

He noted that response teams are always prepared and are immediately deployed to affected areas to assist residents when alerts come in. According to him, these teams are capable of supporting evacuation efforts and helping to pump water out of flooded homes.

He also revealed that NADMO is developing a mobile application to improve flood reporting and response efficiency. The app will allow residents to send precise location details of flood incidents, with the added feature of voice input in several local languages, including Twi and Ewe, to make reporting more accessible.

Officials say the initiative is expected to strengthen real-time communication and improve overall flood management and emergency response across the country.
